Asko T700 wheel drum replacement/belt replacement

Disassembly:

Unstack dryer from washer.

Unplug dryer from wall, washer from dryer, disconnect dryer duct

Lift front of dryer up, “walk” dyer forward to remove tangs in back

            Lay dryer face down

Remove top of dryer

Remove back of dryer

Remove periphery screws, not 4 centering around nut/shaft

loosen nut (will turn drum, so start with quick jerk)

bring nut to top of bolt shaft to protect threads, tap with hammer to unseat shaft from bearing seal.

Lift back of dryer out of way, do not disconnect wires, take them out of holders only

Take out air ducts

Remove tube caps from both sides

            Wiggle cross duct out

Remove “L” duct from fan assembly

Remove belt and lift drum out

Clean belt path on drum, tensioner pulley wheel, and grooves on motor drive shaft

Take off drum wheels

Cut “finger hole” in side of plastic  this “workaournd” will allow you to NOT take out the entire plastic assembly (which seems to be a contrived source of frustration) and allow you to stick your finger in to hold the nut on as you tighten the drum wheels

Re-assembly:

Put on drum wheels, place nut in back with finger, tighten, use medium locktite thread binder

Put new, thicker, longer, spring on tensioner

Tape belt to drum (straight) on normal line of belt travel

Carefully seat drum back into dyer

Height of back of drum should be about ½ inch lower than sides of dryer

Thread belt through pulleys, remove tape

Reattach “L” duct, and transvers duct, replace tube endcaps

Place back of dryer back on

Make sure not to crimp and wires, and that they are still all attached

Tap back of dryer around bearing shaft until near flush with level of bearing

Replace top of dryer, restack

Dear scuba415,

1. This is an excellent post which I have taken the liberty of copying for future reference.

2. I have been reading your prior post regarding your noisy Asko T700 Dryer with bad rollers and have a question for you.

a. By "bad rollers" do you mean the wheel bearing with round black rubber covering that is on the right side of the dryer if you are looking at it from the front.

b. If this is what you were refering to, could you please post how you fixed your problem. (On your post you said the bad roller was on the left side of your dryer. I did not see a roller on the left side, just the right side.)

c. I removed the front panel of my ASKO T700 Dryer to see what was making the dryer squek so much and found the black rubber part of my roller had fallen of its bearing and was cracked in several places. It was laying on the bottom of dryer right underneath the bearing.

d. Was replacement simply a matter of getting a new rubber part and putting it back on the bearing or is a new bearing with new rubber needed.

e. How many roller bearings is on/in the ASKO T700? If there are more than one, I would like to replace them all at one time.

I thank you in advance for your reply. If what I am describing does not match your problems please tell me so that I can place a HELP message in the regular forum.

Thanks again.

Dear Samurai Appliance Repair Man,

1. First sorry for only addressing my earlier reply to scuba415.

2. You are more than welcome to reply to my plea for help and I wish you would reply.

3. After searching the archive for noisy dryers and drum rollers, it appears that a full disasembly of the dryer is necessary for drum roller replacement. However, a schematic and/or instructions does not yet exist for any ASKO Dryer. There is one detail write up for a belt replacement on the same ASKO T700 Dryer that I have. Will this write up get me to where I need to go to replace my drum rollers.

4. How many drum roller does my ASKO T700 Dryer have and what other replacments part do you suggest I replace at the same time as my drum rollers.

5. I thank you in advance for your reply and please accept my apology that no insult to you was intended for refering to scuba415 only in my first post. Thanks.

Hi, Tx, no offense taken-- this is an open forum were anyone an talk to anyone else, there are many topics here in which I never comment.

I deleted the new topic you posted on this same subject to avoid redundancy.

Your dryer has two drum rollers in back. Scuba's instructions should server you well. There are diagrams for the Asko but they are not helpful. The service manual, however, is very helpful and includes illustrations and good instructions. It's too big to attach here but I could be persuaded to email it to you with your generous love-offering to my flavorite charity.

You'll probably find that one drum roller is obviously bad and the other seemingly good. Replace both regardless of the condition of one. Part link: http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=154&N=722130

I like your reply. Donations was made before you replied and a second donation will be made once I get the dryer fixed. Thanks and I look forward to receiving your gift via email at txtax1122@yahoo.com

Would you replace the bearings and belt if you were me and given the age of my dryer (six year old.) I clean the lint before every drying session and do a semiannaul duct and bottom housing cleaning as well.

Thanks for your love-offering! :) Check your email, manual should be there by now.

Excellent question! Well, as long as you're going to all the trouble to take it apart and given that it's 6 years old, the belt may show signs of wear (cracking, splitting, etc.) and, if so, it would be wise to go ahead and replace it.

The idler pulley can be another troublemaker. Assess its condition carefully-- if you have any doubts about it, replace it, too.

Fun fact to know and tell: when I'm on a service call and I have an appliance torn down, I always inspect rolling components for signs of excessive wear. If I think it should be replaced, I'll advise the customer accordingly. They may or may not want me to do it, but at least I've made them aware of it.

Comes with the belt in the belt part link I posted above. Here it is again: http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=154&N=1154685

Click it and you'll see the spring comes with the belt.

Scuba - many thanks from Down Under for your post.

I found I did not have to drill any holes when replacing the drum rollers.

I simply tilted the machine back upright, opened the door, and undid the four Torx screws that hold the white plastic trim around the dryer front opening.

The front plastic trim and the plastic assembly where the drum rollers are mounted are one and the same.

This permits you to move the plastic trim inward.  Just enough to squeeze your hand in behind it to hold the load roller Nyloc nut.

I have attached photos of the plastic trim dislodged with a view of the Nyloc nut.

Cheers and many thanks again:cheers:

Dear Samurai:

I've got a sick Asko T700 dryer with the same problems and would love to get my hands on your service manual - for a contribution to your "favorite charity" - of course. Can you help?

O wise one,  I am also in need of wisdom.  I too have a :X sick T760 ASKO Dryer, in need of some TLC.  The rollers and belt need replacement.  Please show me the way of the Ancient Arts (repair manual) if you find my offerings to your satisfaction.

Sincerely,

Your apprentice,

Samir

Asko dryer overheating.........

Now that I have sucessfully replaced the drum roller wheels, and the belt, the noise of howling puppies in the dryer has gone away.  Now I have noticed the dryer will shut off in mid cycle due to it overheating.  The rear panel of the dryer gets too hot to touch for much longer than about 5 seconds.  Is that normal?:yikes:

To restart the dryer I have to reset the button in the back of the machine.

Currently the dryer is venting directly into my crawl space (to be rectified soon), so there is really no vent pipe air flow restriction or blockage.  The existing vent is long and clogged and needs a full replacement.  Will replace with a rigid pipe system.  It will still be about 25 feet long.  I realize that a shorter pipe is better, but this is what I have to work with.  I was thinking of using the white 4" rigid pipe, instead of the flex metal one.  What do you think?  Should I consider using the larger pipe diameter, to reduce flow resistance?

What type of material are you using for the dryer vent? If the spiral-slinky stuff, then if may be crushed and restricting air flow.

The current vent material is the aluminium semi rigid pipe that can be purchased at Home Depot.  It is fully clogged and is a real mess.  Big globs of duct tape hold it together.  The material I was thinking of replacing it with is the white PVC 4" rigid pipe.  It comes in 8 to 10 foot lengths and must be glued together using the PVC cement.  I figured I could significantly reduce the line friction.  I am not sure if PVC pipe will meet code or not.

The last option I am considering is purchasing an industrial grade flex tubing designed to handle higher temperatures.  This stuff looks like shopvac type hose but is very expensive.  Around a 100 bucks for 25'.  The good thing about this item is that it is continuous.

I also opened up the blower fan to check for lint.  I did start up the dryer, and I was surprised to see the squirrel cage blower fan spinning with a wobble.  Is this normal or should I replace the fan?

Having made a love-offering to the applia-temple, i was so moved by the dryer enlightenment in your pages that i could not resist donating to the Beer Fund.

Oh Master, perhaps you could enlighten me more from your vast store of fermented manual knowledge?

I have also suffered the curse of the screaming demons within an ASKO T701. Your wisdom is great and so much appreciated. I have made a small modest donation in hopes of a manual gift.
I have ordered the parts above and look forward to again being able to have conversations in the home while the ASKO dehydrates my clothes.

Hello,

I just replaced the belt on my T760, following all valuable info and advise found here. It was not that difficult. But while there I found a part that was not attached to anything, just lying on the bottom. It is white plastic cap has code 8061956. Appliance Part list it but their listing only says "Series 700 Cap" and no picture. Does anybody know what that cap should be attached to and how critical is it?

Also, while stringing my new belt on the pulley, I noticed that the pulley has a lip only on one (closer to the motor) side. It does not look like the other side is broken or torn, but I am not sure how it holds the belt. Maybe it was iriginal design at the time I bought the dryer (around 2001). I would love to confirm that pulley should have lips on both sides. I will then order a new pulley and will (although not with much pleasure) again get to the dryer guts.

Thank you for your comments/answers.

Part # 8061956 is # 12 in the diagram

What pulley part number are you talking about,  number 20 in the diagram ?

Thank You for the drawing RegUS_PatOff!

Yes, pulley that I am writing about is # 20.

I see # 12 but what is its function there? Is it supposed to be attached to the L-shaped duct? Incodentally, that L-shaped duct has 3 holes in it, is that cap # 12 covering the holes? (I covered them with duct tape for time being as the lint just blowing inside the dryer gut thru them.)

Thanks to anybody who can confirm.

from the pictures, I don't see a difference in the lips from either view.

Hello There,

I replaced the belt and the spring on my T700 dryer and it worked fine for a while Now the dryer became too noisy and drum is nor turning smoothly but makes a slight jump as it goes around. I openned the dryer and noticed that the belt is alredy worn a bit (after a few months), and drum wheels (rollers in the front) have their rubber part worn out. I am oredering replacement for them. My questions to the experts who already went thru all of this:

1) can the noise and non-smoth rolling as well as the untimely wearing of the belt be caused only by bad rollers, or I need to look for something else?

2) why our guru says that rollers are in the back, while I see them in the front?

Thank you for the answers and wisdom.

While removing the parts to replace the belt I now notice that the pin or bolt holding the belt tensioner pulley in place has sheared through.  Is this a threaded bolt or a shear pin?  Any ideas for how to remove the remaining pieces of the bolt from the motor housing and pulley arm?  I too am in need of a wiring diagram if any has a copy.  Thanks.

I have made a small donation, is there a chance I could get the service manual for the Asko 760?  Trying to replace the belt and have a the machine apart and not sure how to get everything back together.

Many thanks

OK, so my asko dryer would not "spin". It was giving heat, but no tumble. So, with the assistance of the wisdom in these forums, my husband and i replaced the belt. Seemed simple enough and in fact the old belt fell out broken, confirming our belief that this was the problem...

But it is never so simple is it?

Now, there is no heat, no tumble/spin, AND a horrible rubber/electric burning smell....

What do we do??

Problem solved! By looking at the service manual, i learned there are 2 rollers at the front of the drum. We took it apart and everything looked good with the rollers:X

But when we flipped the drum over, we found the edge was crimped...must have been when we took it out the first time. Anyway, straightened it out with pliers and it runs like new!!:)

Could I too get a copy of the ASKO T700 repair manual?  Also, if available one for Rbert Bosch HBL 665 Wall Oven?

Thanks much

I've just replaced the belt in my T760 (thanks to all who have posted here, especially scuba). It took about 30 minutes start to finish. There was a white plastic coating on the nut on the back of the drum which came off using a sharp knife. There was no need to undo any wires at all - I laid the machine on it's front, and removed the back with all connections intact while keeping the corner where all the wires run close to the main body of the machine. I'd replaced the rollers a few years ago and they were still fine. ASKO in Australia don't supply anything (springs, etc) with the belt, and they refuse to help with any instructions unless you're an "authorised service agent", so this forum was a life (and money) saver! Thanks again to all for sharing knowledge and experiences.

Have to say that overall, I'm not very impressed with the dryer - since new, it has always shut off before the load is fully dry regardless of the setting. Asko say "that's the way it is", and there's apparently no fix apart from running it for a timed 40 minutes after the auto cycle has ended. On the other hand, the W660 washer has been excellent.

Oh, and I could really use a copy of the T760 service manual if possible please.. and one for a W660 washer, although (touch wood) it hasn't missed a beat in the 8 years we've had it.

My email is davidray56@yahoo.com and I would dearly appreciate a copy of the Asko T700 Dryer service manual. Also, do you have the service manual for the W600 washer by Asko?
