Well here is the deal, We live on a 40 foot boat.  Limited galley space to say the least.  If I put in a stove top and remove the oven, install a convection micro range hood, then I'll have room for a single dish drawer under the cook top.

So I just got a double drawer fisher paykel for cheap soooooo,

how do I disable the double drawer function to make it a single drawer?  I've got the physical part figured out, cutting etc.  Just need to know how to access the guts and how to disable the necessary things.

Thanx in advance.  Just FYI, I'm a 62 year old general contractor who has been doing stuff like this for years.

Can't be done.  A double-drawer unit is manufactured as a unitary cabinet with two drawer mechanisms mounted inside ... like a two-drawer filing cabinet.  If you want a single-drawer unit, you have to buy a single-drawer unit.  Likewise, two single-drawer units cannot be physically combined to create a double-drawer unit (although they could conceivably be installed atop each other).

DD = DishdrawerDouble

DS = DishdrawerSingle

Oh yea of little faith.
Just tell me how to get into the control box area.
Each drawer has independant controls. There must be a way to cut off water and power to one drawer.
C'mon, think outside the box, it ain't a warranty issue.

Anybody here remember hotrodding?  Putting a Caddy engine in a 50 Ford?

anything is possible

i would use the bottom drawer as the bottom drawer sends signals back to the top so if the bottom isnt theere the top wont work , also all the main wiring etc is in the bottom

you would just remove the top drawer , wiring harness , drain hose and inlet hose , there is a double inlet valve in the bottom but should be ok , it shouldnt let water out

cut top off , weld top onto bottom section

easy peasy

when you finally get it into the boat you would be prudent to use the lock drawer function so the drawer wont fly open

good luck, let us know how you go

That was my plan, cut off the top, have new stainless top bent up at a shop, pop rivet and seal the new top and voila a $450 dishwasher for about $100.

I'll definitely take som pics of before, during and after.
thanx guys,
thom

I have disconnected the top drawer to give customers a runing bottom drawer when I didn't have enough parts. Just disconnect the top drawer harness from the mains filter board (under the cover in the bottom) and do your disection. Removal of the upper drawer's inlet and drain hoses should be pretty much obvious.

you wouldnt need to get a new top made

if you firstly cut the top off say half an inch down from the top you will have the new top ready ,

snip it in the corners so you can then squeeze it back on and the 1/2 inch is place you can pop rivet or run a weld around
