Dryer is intermittently working in timed mode. Burner stays lit about half the time. In auto-sensing mode, the burner lights for about a minute, then shuts off. I tried cleaning the moisture sensor strips with rubbing alcohol, but no change. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve-o

Steve-o wrote: ... Burner stays lit about half the time... The Burner doesn't stay lit for the entire drying cycle. It tries to keep the Vent output temperature between 135F to 160F. The Auto-Sensing mode doesn't affect the Burner duration, but rather the Timer Motor duration. 110.76832500 Wiring Diagrams OR are you saying the Burner stays lit for only a minute or two on either cycle ? if so, then it sounds like bad Gas Valve Coils click on picture ![]()

Sorry, I phrased poorly. I meant that about half the time when run in timer mode, the load of clothes will get dry. The other half of the time, the drum turns with no heat, and the clothes stay damp. When run in moisture-sensing mode, the burner lights at first, then goes out, and doesn't cycle on again.

Well, the dryer seems to have improved on its own. It's not 100%, though. The burner cycles on and off to maintain temperature, for a few cycles, anyway. I can only lay on the floor and watch it so long. The dryer still takes two or sometimes three times through to get the load completely dry. Strange voodoo.

Ok, this might be a stretch, but our oven is acting odd, too. slow to get up to temperature. Could it be the quality of the gas coming to the house? If the pressure were low or the gas were diluted, it seems like it would burn less hot. Anyone heard of that happening, or am I grasping at straws?

Well, it's not really off-topic. I mention the oven because it uses the same gas as the dryer, and it's been acting oddly lately, also. I'm wondering if a problem with the gas could be causing the trouble with my dryer.

No, I'm not kidding. I need help with my Kenmore dryer (see topic title). I'm not asking for help with my oven, I only mentioned it in the hopes of exploring whether the quality of the gas coming to my house could be affecting my appliances, specifically, my Kenmore dryer.

Ok that makes sense now....could be if there was water in the gas but that would cause the flame to go out and then re-light when the water was gone out of the gas, that would take the gas co to check that out....on the dryer sounds like either the coils on the gas valve are going bad or the air flow from the dryer to the outside is blocked somewhere...on the oven would need model/serial/brand and exactly what it is or not doing...but I have not heard of bad gas causing problems unless you are on propane and the tank is getting low or the regulator is going south....

I replaced the gas valve coils, and all seems well now. I'm curious about something. My oven had issues, I read up on it, and changed the ignitor coil. What I'm curious about is why two appliances had basically the same symptoms (not heating), but two completely different fixes. Why is the ignitor coil in an oven prone to failure, while it's the gas valve coils in a dryer?

I was more wondering why the fixes were so different.

Oven & Clothes Dryers use completely different types of Gas Valves and Ignitor systems ... and they each fail in different ways ..
