Thermador Down draft  (model VTN600CVA/01)   fan is not starting and is making a humming noise.  I was told you can spin the fan and it will start.   I just started working on TThermador downdrafts so I don't know much about them.    I will be going out to look at it on Thursday.  And was wounding where should I start.  Sounds like the motor. But I see there is a capacitor with this unit. Could this also be the problem?

Thanks

first : if your makeing a liveing repairing appliances and you do not have a cap tester on your truck ....STOP !  tommorow morning first thing , take a trip to grangers , johnstone ect , buy one . YOU CANT BE WITHOUT IT   caps are now made in china , there junk and fail all the time , you MUST have a way to test them !   second , want the quick and dirty way to test this motors cap ?...... turn it on , from a stop spin it backwards , if it starts backwards (it will run slowly) it has a bad cap ... if it only will start in the correct rotation the cap is good ....... this motor is made like junk , i bet you have a bad motor
