Dishwasher ran in the rinse cycle for about an hour before we realized it would never end. So first I opened the drain for the 1st time in 9 years. You get the idea. A day later all cleaned, along with the spray bar etc. Ran cycle empty, would not advance from the wash cycle. So I did a search and downloaded "Repair Guide". Looked at the failure storage and had E1 for the error. Ran the "Customer Service Program" and was able to step thru each step. It filled, washed, rinsed and drained. So mechanically I think its ok. Took the control board out of the door and inspected for burned contacts. First the board did not look like the picture of the board for a different model, but no burned contacts found. Reinstalled, ran customer service program again. Worked the same as before. What can I test? I would need some disassembly diagrams and prints on what terminals etc to test. Thanks. The unemployed engineer who is loosing more self confidence at time goes on.

If you have a current clamp, see how much current flows through the red wire during the point that it delays, it is likely attempting to heat water at that point. Many control boards are replaced because this cicuit fails in them. There was also a recent recall on some of these units so you may want to find out from bosch if you have an affected model.

I don't have a current clamp handy. This model was not affected by the recall.

If you have a voltmeter, you can see if the relay on the board is sending 120v to the heater (lg red wire) during the delay, if not, you'll need a controller. This is a common failure for these

Yes, it is especially important to heat during rinse so that the dishes will dry

Your model is one that is on the recall list, the FDxxxx code on the model/serial nbr plate will tell if it's one of the included dishwashers. Code FD8503 - FD8507 are the units on the recall list. I checked the recall, my unit was FD8508 which is not part of the recall. There are 4 relays on the board, all look good from the back side. I will price the board. Other posts for simular products are $155.

First step would be to measure and see if voltage is present coming off of relay before changing part

You'll find the schematic behind the kickplate, tucked into a plastic drip tray by the power junction box. Cheek on floor, use a flashlight, you'll see it. Good luck interpreting it! Bosch wiring diagrams are notoriously cryptic.

What is your hot water temp at the beginning of rinse; if it is lower than 120, could take a long time(like an hour or more) to bring it up to target temp. Dishwashers need hot water; run it at the sink till it is as hot as it gets before starting cycle or you are waisting the first wash cycle. You can also ohm out the heater and check that any Hi limit device is closed in series with the heat element. The current check verifies this. And if you are a distance from the HW tank you may not be getting the max temp ever, unless you run it to the tap first. Dishwashers make lousy hot water heaters. If you need to use the energy saver, wash the dish by hand and store them in the dishwasher. Last edited on Thu Jul 30th, 2009 07:02 am by davidg |

Ok, 3 months later and I have the water heater unit in hand ready to install. How? Does the whole plastic bottom need to come off? I have found screws on the front and back to the body. Is this it, or are there other ones. Does the door hinge pully system stay with the body, what about the motor. I just don't want to snap off some plastic part thats not made anymore. Thanks in advance.
