I have a MAH9700AWW that has the classic error and the drum tries to start but only does by cycling the big knob on and off several time. I have the service bulletin that talks about the connector at the motor and my connector / machine is newer than the ones shown and suspect this was the answer to the older connector. Checked it anyway and there are no bent or pushed back pins and the pins connect with full engagement. I'm thinking of changing out the entire control panel and can't figure out how to remove the front panel. It has a single Phillips screw on the right side visible when you remove the soap drawer, but I don't want to break the panel pulling on it. How is this removed gracefully? Ok, found out how, the top cover has two screws on the back side that remove and then the top comes off. Then the four screws and one under the soap drawer and the cover comes off and there are some clips on the bottom edge that sound like they are braking off when you swing the top edge of the cover to the front.

I checked the motor windings and they are about 11 ohms 1-2, 2-3, 1-3. I looked at the harness and it looks good, no worn spots. I checked the error codes by holding the "Chime" and the "Extra Rinse" for 3-4 seconds and there was one code that came up it was U311 and first came up a "O" and I hit the "Soil Level" button and the U311 came up. I tried "Spin Speed" button and ob or ok came up. It really isn't a arabic character. Anyone know what U311 is?

I ordered the control panel in hopes that it will cure the problem. The new control panel has an additional device, I believe it to be a drum speed sensor that replaces one inside the motor??? I told myself that I was not going to put any money into this machine because of smelly clothes issues, vibrating abount the room like a posesed, but I am too cheap. LOL

If I were you, I would perform some of the diagnostics in the tech sheet that Reg has provided, an ob code could mean off balance- and you refer to the machine bouncing around. Throwing a control board at the machine may solve nothing. Run some of the checks and see what the machine WON'T do. Afterwards you may wanna clear the failure codes and run the machine again to see what comes up Last edited on Sun Jul 19th, 2009 12:45 am by kdog ____________________ Can Ye spare some 'cutter me brutha ? http://web.me.com/zenzoidman/kdog/ |

Thanks Reg and Kdog, two more questions please based on 16026736 . One, what is a "MEMS Sensor"? Two, where can I find the Service Manual mentioned in the Technical Information that Reg posted? Reg, do you have that publication? Last edited on Sun Jul 19th, 2009 03:54 pm by porschedude996tt |

I noticed that the replacement control panel comes with a new motion sensor and harness. Maybe that is the fix... Last edited on Sun Jul 19th, 2009 04:24 pm by porschedude996tt |

Hey Reg, do you have any idea about the motor speed sensor that comes with the new controler? Is there some improved panel and sensor? I hope this is fix...

3E Error Update: After unplugging and checking motor windings, checking other end of motor conductors/plug at control panel, and a little praying over the weekend, we were able to get thru 3 or 4 loads and only needed to restart 1 or 2 times during the spin cycle. I found that if I rotated the drum a 1/4 and restarted the cycle that it would take off ok. There is a 10-14 day wait on the control panel because repair clinic didn't have one in stock. Oh well, they can't have everything...more to follow.

I received the new board and it came with a new device that plugs into the board. The new component is a motion sensor that measures motion of the frame or cabinet. After installation you open palm tap on the side and top of the cabinet to check to see if it is working while in a maintenance mode. Since the install of the new board the washing machine has not failed. We have been putting different size loads in it and it has been working fine. What bothers me is the publishing date of the instructions. They are dated before we bought the washing machine. Sounds like they should have updated the to the new board and the added motion sensor before delivery... Anyway, problem fixed with the help of people on this forum and I thank you!

The publish date was on the sheet to install the new board and the motion sensor. It was dated before I bought the washer and dryer. I I believe I purchased the W&D February or March of 2006. I'll look at the invoice later tonight an verify the date. The wish I never bought the new W&D and kept previous Maytags we owned. I only wore out the center drum bearing and replaced the seal several times over the 8 or 9 years we owned them. They didn't walk around the laundry room and strangle themselves at the end of the hose stretch.

Hi Guru, could you please renew the link to the MAH9700AWW Service Manual for me? My computer HD went south and I had the copy only on the desktop. Thanks, Keith
