here's the problem the washer was already installed when we bought the house (it's only a little over a year old but has only been used for about 8 months). Anyway- the washer and dryer sit on the pedestals and the washer also sits in some type of plastic pan (not sure why). When I do a load of wash-no matter what size or if I do it on high or medium spin the thing vibrates like crazy. It literally shakes the lighting fixture below. It sounds like a helicopter taking off.

What can I do? I checked to see if it was level (with the bubble thing) and also tried to shake if holding opposite corners. Seems fine. I was reading about the cushion/mat type things you can put under the corners. Would that help or am I just S.O.L.?

You have a few things working against you...

1. A Duet on a wooden floor will vibrate more than if it was on concrete.

2. Over time, the wood floor will weaken from the constant forces, and the vibration will get worse.

3. A Duet on a pedestal will vibrate more than one on the floor.

4. The pan under the washer will make it vibrate more.

You can try the cushion/mat things, I've never seen them in service so I can't say if they work or not.

The washer and dryer belong in the basement, or at least on a cement floor.

The only other question I can ask is if the machine is on the second floor of the home. In my experience, I've had more complaints about vibrating front-loaders on second floors. It's probably because the homes in Maine tend to be older and the floors aren't as sturdy. Sometimes laying down a rubber mat underneath it helps. It's not ideal, but it's a cheap fix.

I had a handicapped customer who lived on the second floor of a 150 year old home and her FTF530 Frigidaire was vibrating all to hell. I told her to get a friend or relative to go to the hardware store and get a rubber mat that a cashier would stand on and put it underneath and she called back to tell us that it helped a lot.

Again, it's not ideal, but it helps.

In sales, the first question I ask any customer looking for front-loaders is where they are putting them. I own a Fisher & Paykel set myself because I live in a trailer. I love the Bosch machines, but there's no way I'm letting it vibrate my home all day.
