Well, I've attached the alleged schematic I found inside the dryer. At first (thinking 110v) I thought that a shorted element couldn't generate any heat, because you would just connect the short to neutral. But this is 220v, so connecting the short to neutral gets 110v whenever the timer is on! Ah! I see said the blind man, and he picked up his hammer and saw! I will test for this ASAP.
