I have a Frigidaire washer model 417.39012890. Today we washed a small load and it ended up very much out of balance and was trying to walk all over the place during spin.

The washer is 12+ years old. It seams to me like I remember a long time ago it would slow down when it hit this condition.

Is there any function in the washer to detect out of balance and stop it? If there is - mine is broken. Can it be fixed?

Thanks!

Older front loading washers do not have inertia sensors or software to detect imbalanced spin.

In your washer--which is built by Frigidaire--the *damper strut* may be broken.

Remove the lower access panel & inspect the struts (one on each side).

These act similar to shock absorbers on an automobile.

Beginning in 2008---Samsung & LG front load washers have the capability to *cancel out* vibration / resonance during the spin cycle. A very useful feature for consumers wanting a front load washer in their wood floor laundry room.

I have to come back and ask. How do I check the shocks?

Never mind above question. I think the puddle of oil under them gives it away. Time for a beer while I wait for fedex to bring new parts :)
