 In dire straits here fellas. The washer started a loud grinding sound the other day but only when agitating(kinda like when the wife is agitating me). The woman continued to use it until it stopped working. It will do NOTHING when it's wash time but still spins fine. Took the front cover off and everything looks ok. Tipped it up and tried all the pulleys underneath and everything turns easy. Tried to turn the tub and it is extremely difficult to turn. Transmission gone out? Are you sure it's not agitating? If it is, then the problem may just be a bad pump. Otherwise, probably a bad transmission. See this topic for some diagnostic help: http://applianceguru.com/forum2/6243.html

No not agitating at all. Took the inner drum out and nothing wrong. Still think trans? It is still under warranty if so. Saw in the link you sent me that said the seal and upper bearing were a no brainer. Are these parts that should come with the trans since it is still under warranty? If not, I tried looking them up but not sure if I found what I needed. Also the snubber? Any special tools for all of this. I desperately need to do this on the cheap to avoid buying a new washer if possible-hence my name-but want to do it right. No use throwing good money after bad. I really appreciate the help!

bearing and seals come with the tranny. You aren't getting any motor noise during wash either now? your motor should still be trying to run if the tranny is bad...remove the belt and fill it to a small load and make sure the motor will run during agitation.

Ok got home, took the belt off and filled it to a small load and the motor worked. Put the belt back on and tried it and yes it is agitating(my wife set it to wash and evidently I had been setting it wrong to try to get it agitate-I'm an idiot I know)So it IS agitating but sounds like it is grinding bad. The tools you need are in one of my posts in this topic....only part you don't need is the bearings and seal kit (should have come with the new tranny. In addition you will need a couple of #10-24 x 1 & 1/2" bolts from your local hardware store, small piece of med. grit sand paper and some corn starch out of your pantry. http://www.applianceguru.com/forum2/26649 I almost forgot. a 6 Pk. of Michelob Ultra

Ok I have finally had time to work on this thing. Dissembled the cabinet and removed the tranny and every thing connected to it but have no idea how to disassemble it, especially the brake. Help?! Need desperately do this myself!

Thanks but i don't want to sell it. I know how to get everything apart with the exception of the brake. Is there any way to do the job without the brake tool? I have everything else apart and am ready to remove it from the brake but would like not to have to purchase the tool. Is this possible?

That's why appl.tech mentioned the bolts - you remove a couple of the brake bolts and install the longer bolts in their place - then remove the remaining short ones and use the longer ones to "walk" the brake stator against the spring pressure - that's a pretty good tip and a much cheaper alternative to the tool I use
