Earlier, I had a spin problem with my washer which I diagnosed down to a bad thrust bearing.

I left the front cover panel off of it to watch it in action after the repair and noticed that the drum vibrates a bit, even when spinning empty. It wasn't hitting the sides or anything, but it was moving a good half inch in either direction at full speed.

I pulled the upper cover off of the outer drum. The inner drum is perfectly centered in the outer drum (Down to about 1/32nd of an inch) and neither drum is out of round.

This is the first time I've ever watched this one spin like this. This is also my first machine with plastic drums. My previous machines have been steel drums.

Is this normal? Are they just really not that well balanced from the factory?

Or perhaps I have damaged it when I loaded it and spun it off balance?

Also, my previous machines have had an off balance switch that'll stop the machine if the drum hits the sides. This machine lacks the anti-dance switch. Why?

Differend manufactures design in different ways, some have the out of balance switch some don't. On your machine you should be able to grab the agitator and push to each corner all the way and it should stay in that position. If the agitator goes back towards the center then your snubber pad is bad and will make the machine go out of balance. But if you haven't had a problem with out of balance loads I wouldn't worry about it, but your machine is bad for that particular problem as well as the base warping.
