I recently had my washer fixed with a new pump, but as of two days ago it now makes a screeching noise in final spin and squeals loudly when I spin it by hand.  Is this something worth fixing or should I look for a new washer?

Many thanks.

Mat- could be something in between tub and basket, which means you pull the whole tub and basket to see whats there. more than likely rear bearing is bad. over $400 in parts may not be worth it. i'm ruling out the pump because you say the noise is there when turned by hand.

How much effort is it to pull out the tub and basket?  Is this something I should have someone else do or is it relatively straightforward to do myself?  Thanks.

could be motor bearings, they will whine fairly loud on those. could verify by removing belt rotating basket again

The noise isn't throughout the whole revolution, just a part.  It seems that it is only certain points that cause the noise, so it is screech, quiet, screech, quiet, etc.  I would guess a bearing would make noises all the way throughout the rotation.

Also, can someone please let me know how much work it is to remove the tub and basket?

Thanks.

if you know what you are doing it takes about 2 hrs to replace the basket. nothing too hard, remove the back and pull tub out through rear
