Our 4+ yr. old Whirlpool Gas Dryer Model GGW9250PW0 will not fire.  The heat will not turn on.  It is cold no matter what I set the dryer on. My wife dried a load on Sunday, the second load did not dry, I think she had set the manual timer for that load.  Things I have checked...Have continuity across the Thermal Fuse, Thermister ohms read in range, Coils on gas valve on the three post are in range, the resistance between 4-5 was 1320 (was suppose to be 1220 +/-50) so I bought a new one, the new one also read 1320, so decided that wasn't it.    The High Limit Thermostat is testing as closed as it should.

So the Whirlpool service info. was telling me to replace the electronic control board next (top left area of dryer) Decided to call an electrician and get his opinion.   He comes out, does his testing and confirms he thinks it needs a new board.  Ordered a new machine control electronics board #8546219 and installed it,  still no heat.   So I am pretty sure my original board is still ok.

Other info, No error messages, no power surges the day it quit (that I am aware of) all the lights on the front control panel work,  I am at a lost.  There is no logic to it, It was working fine one load and bam it the gas quits.   FYI, When I removed the lower front panel there was a fair amount of lent inside which I vacuumed out, I don't know how much is normal, but I wouldn't think it was abnormally high.  The exhaust tube is clear. We had not had one issue with this dryer up until now.   My wife is loosing her patience as am I.  Please help. Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.

No, I do not see the ignitor glowing.  No, I did not vacuum (remove the bottom panel) until after it quit.   Electrician; Yes, one of the counter reps at the local Marcone Appliance Parts warehouse recommended I call an appliance electrician to trouble shoot before I bought a $200 board, which the serv. sheet was telling me I needed to replace.  So he came out and diagnosed it and made his recommendation to change out the board, I paid him their trip charge.

I have 120V on both sides of the Thermal Fuse

I am assuming the "Ignitor" is the part that looks like two vertically stacked white blocks inside the heat tube? Each has a white wire coming off it terminated with a electrical quick connector.  The other half of the connector is fed by a black and white wire.    With the connector unplugged the white has 120V, the black is 0V, with the plug connected (to the two white wires) it still has 120V on the white and 0V on the Black wire

I pulled the wire connector on the ignitor, am getting no continuity thru the ignitor.  Is it safe to say the ignitor failed?

Changed the ignitor, the dryer is working fine now. I can't believe I didn't think to check that right away.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.  :)

I think the Electrician was more concerned about figuring out how to generate a repair bill for $350-$400 dollars. Thanks again. Glad I ran across this website.
