My Maytag gas dryer had been cranking for years and all of a sudden there is no heat.  Suggestions?

When you start the dryer, can you hear a snap from the area of the burner?

In all the years we've had it, we've never heard a snap sound as it's started. I know what you mean though. Maybe it's older gas dryers that snap, or maybe Maytags don't.

Does the ignitor glow momentarily and then go out?

I have not taken it apart yet as it happened last night (Sunday). How do I test the glow bar? Does it always glow? If I take it all apart should I see it glowing or only when it turns on?

Update: Local parts house has ignitor (which apparently is also the heating element?) for 28.41.

Also said the problem might be the thermostat?  Also has that for 27.99

Do I just do both while I'm in there?

FIXED!! Replaced the ignitor and thermal fuse and all is well. Thermal fuse fixed the "no clicking" problem and ignitor fixed the "no glow" problem. What are the odds that both went out at the same time?

Geisha happy once again!

Thanks to all!
