I saw this check on another thread her on the website for the same model washer but where it would not agitate. "Timer still advancing rules out a lot of things and points right at cam 6 of your timer. Let the unit fill till it get to the position where it should be agitating but isn't. You will then want to do a voltage test (minimum 120VAC setting on your meter) from the Yellow 16 wire on your pressure switch (switch behind the console with small hose going to it and 3 wires) to the Black 32 wire on your timer. If you read 120VAC while the unit is filled with water, motor not running and timer IS advancing, your timer is FUBAR." I tried this originally when the machine would do nothing. Should I try this check now while my timer is in the drain or spin mode (making that nasty humming sound)? Or is this a different check altogether and not applicable here?

I'm talking about the Motor that runs the Agitator .. The Service Manual is posted above .. in my first messge ... Yes, the internal contacts in the Timer could have been damaged

Can you turn the pulleys (motor, drive and pump) by hand in both directions ? Does your unit have a capacitor in the brown wire between the motor and the timer ?

kdog, Yes, I think so. I can reach under the washer and access the pulleys there. The pulleys turn freely in both directions. One direction is a bit harder but I can't really tell if that is the belt slipping of the pulley resisting or what. But it still turns pretty easily with one hand. In the other direction there is no resistance whatsoever. In both directions all pulleys are moving together at the same time. I can't see a capacitor in the brown lead coming to the Timer Motor inside the control panel, but I'm not sure that is what you are talking about. Where would I check for the capacitor? RegUS_PatOff, Sorry, my bad. You did indeed post the manual earlier. I completely forgot. I have to admit, though, it isn't quite as simplistic as I think I need. (See "blown fuse".) I'm pretty much at a loss as to how to check the motor voltages. I can't even tell from the manual where to access the motor. Can you provide some basics on how to do this? John

The motor can be accessed by removing the 2 screws in the lower part of the front panel, and then pulling the panel outward at the bottom, this will reveal the inner workings of this fine machine. To the left, you'll see the motor with 5 or 6 wires attached. The capacitor I enquired about would be attached to the side of the cabinet, adjacent to the wiring harness which runs from the motor to the control panel. Reg is directing you to check voltages reaching the motor (or not) to verify problem in the timer, which sounds like your present issue may be.

kdog, Thanks for the detailed instruction. I removed the front cover and found the motor at the bottom left. I removed the protective plastic cover. Nothing attached to any frame wall and I could trace the brown wire from the motor all the way through the harness to the panel. There is a block on the motor itself where all the leads come in. Its not clear if that is removable or not. Could it be the capacitor? Anyway, I set the timer to the end of the permanent press cycle where it should be spinning. Got the wonderful hum again (and a smell is now starting). Got 120VAC Black to White. Got zero brown to red. Checked it multiple times. Same thing. Bad timer motor?

Sorry to be a way so long. My fault. Many thanks to RegUS_PatOff and kdog. I got the timer, installed it and all is well. I still have the broken "soaking" lens, but I taped the light to the back of the panel and it lights up enough to see it. We rarely use the soak feature anywhow. The timer knob seems to be a little off - the machine kicks into the next part of the cycle when the knob pointer is about 1/8 inch away from the markings on the panel - but it works just fine. Your patience and suggestions were really appreciated. Around here it is $80 for a technician to show up and another $50 an hour for diagnosis and repair. So you saved me a minimum of $130. That is much appreciated by this father of two college students! John
