I have a 6 year old Kenmore 80 series direct drive washer that seems to be working fine except at the end of the spin cycle when the drum is slowing to a stop, there is a loud banging and jarring noise and activity. I watched it fill, agitate, empty and spin properly, it is the stopping that is creating the noise and problem. Please help, any suggestions on where to begin. I have removed the cabinet and inspected it, removed the coupler, but am stuck here.

Thanks!

:)

I became impatient and decided I have nothing to lose...I removed the agitator and basket after realizing the banging was coming from the basket bouncing as I manually turned it, I have discovered what the fitting on the inside of the basket has sheared, as well as the receiving portion appears damaged as well. Is this something I will be able to fix myself? I don't have a manual, only the parts listing...it appears I need a special tool to remove the fitting on the basket, and am assuming I will need to remove the plastic tub to get at the rest below. Any thoughts?

As I am reading, it appears I need to remove the Spanner Nut, and that is the Basket Drive Block that is damaged. Any ideas on how to remove the spanner nut?

Finally, And I will be done for the evening...not a hot topic tonight, I can see. The portion of what I think is the gearcase that is sticking up through the tub appears corroded and worn...is this an easy replacement, or should I just buy a new washer. The Drive block seems like a fix I can do...I'm not sure about the rest.

Thanks kindly!

At the top of page is a "FAQs" section - in it should be all your answers.

You may not need this to remove the Spanner Nut, but you'll need it to tighten it.

Final question for the night, if no one is able to give an answer, I can try and take a picture to post, would I be looking at the brake that is corroded that sits over the top of the gear?

the brake would be hard to get a picture of without removing the gearcase. I think you are describing the drive block wich sits under the agitator.

when you put the new drive block on take a large flat head screwdriver and bend the 2 tabs on the basket drive back out slightly.

Thanks! Hopefully I'll be able to finish the job and wash the huge mound of laundry in my basement.

model # 11024832200 ser cp3325594 type 111 kenmore 80 series top load direct drive washer.

OK, I have figured out the spanner nut portion and the drive block, I am still wondering about the cylindrical object encompassing the gear shaft...I cannot seem to identify it or how to remove it based on the parts list, maybe I will need to order a service manual, but am still trying to figure out if it is worth the expense, ie will I be able to fix it if I purchase the manual? The portion I am speaking of seems to be what the tub/basket rests on...it is misshapen and corroded through on one side...without taking a picture, does anyone have an idea of what I am referring too and how to replace it (what is it called)?

Thanks for the detailed diagram...but, I am looking at the receiving portion for the basket, which I don't see included in this diagram. With further looking at this site, I am wondering if I am looking at a corroded basket drive??? It is to portion that sits over the "transmission" (i think) that the basket rests on and is below the drive block. I am sure that the drive block is sheared and needs replaced, but this seems to be very worn too.

I hope this helps...I may need to take a picture to show??
