Several year-old washer/dryer stack (washer on the bottom, of course). Everything works fine, except that the washer is really loud during spin cycles.  So loud that it can be heard all over the house.  It's not a grinding sound: just the usual rushing you'd expect when the drum spins, but really, REALLY loud.  Hoping this might be a common issue that someone else has encountered, before I have to dismantle the stack.  Thanks!

the model# you gave is for a front load washer.

you have the infamous loud rear bearing that cannot be easily repaired. better luck next time

Does sound like a potential bearing problem. Lots on diagnostic info in this topic.

Take off the front toe panel and unplug the pump - only noise left is bearing and/or motor.

Does "cannot be easily repaired" mean that it is impractical to attempt repair?  Is Kenmore generally a poor choice of front-load washing machine for this reason?

Thanks,
Chuck

Thanks for the help!  Since the noise level increases with drum speed, and doesn't occur any time except during spin cycle, I fear the failing bearing explanation is probably correct.  Are there any bearings associated with the front of the drum, or just with the drum-rear/motor?

Thanks again,
Chuck

"Kenmore" doesn't make anything, they just put their name on it..

The one you have 417.xxxxxxx = Frigidaire ... not worth some fixing FL's problems

Who Makes Sears Kenmore

Who Makes What

Being a Kenmore , I believe you can order the whole tub assembly - out with the old and in with the new.

Wow, $600 for the whole assembly!  I think I'll try replacing just the back half with the bearing in it for $200.  Thanks for posting the parts!

the whole washer cost $510 new.
i strongly suggest replacing the basket too. the shaft could be scored or the spot welds could be getting ready to corrode through soon. the basket has a lifetime warranty.
