Our Kenmore HE3t washing mach1ine stops frequentl1y during cycles and shows an F11 error code.

We can usually press the cancel button, wait a few seconds, then push start again and everything is ok.  But sometimes it won't continue the cylce and keeps on with the error code.

I have unplugged the unit several times and sometimes that helps and sometimes not.

Suggestions?

Thank you,

F-11 means serial communication error. Usually it means your Motor Control board is failing or has failed. But you want to look at the 3 blue wires with a red marking on the connector. This wire plugs into the left side of the main control (Top center of machine). Try reseating it on both ends of the harness. If it errors again I give it a 90% motor control failure, 10% central control failure

The motor control is located behind the bottom front kick panel(3 Torx 20 screws or 7mm socket/nut driver)
The Central Control unit is under the top lid(3 Torx 20 screws or 7mm socket/nut driver) back center.

F/11

Serial Communication Error
Communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly.
Check Wire Harness connectors to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
Check the Drive system for any worn or failed components
Check MCU
Check CCU
Check Motor
Check Wire Harness

I have never run into worn drive parts to cause this issue. Nor have i run into open motor windings... not just for this issue but never needed to replace it for open windings, just flat spots on the bearings in the motor (Several Military customers stored them for over a year).

Your model # will be behind the door on the left or right side of the front panel. I will need that to give you the correct part number.

I just ran into one of these with this exact same problem.  Just had to remove all connection from cpu and reseat and it worked fine, but to help avoid the problem in the future I open the cpu module box and clean all the connectors with a pencil eraser and then put a dab of vaseline on each connector.

There is a post recently about this exact problem with these, an electrical term called fretting, (SP?).  Were the micro vibrations of the connectors causes mirco arching which creates an oxide layer that stops the connection from working.

Check out this discussion and follow the link in the last post.

do you occasionally get a F dl code too? if so the problem is definitely the CCU.

in my experience if the drum wont turn at all its the MCU, if stops mid cycle its the CCU
