Help! The fabric softener cup at the top of our clothes washer agitator slid down into the agitator neck. Now, instead of the cup right at the top of the agitator, it's sitting about 3 inches down into the neck. How do I fix this?

Please see the attached picture.

TIA

Pull the fabric softner dispenser off, just give a hard pull straight up and it will pop right off.

Then you can clean it out and reassembly the two pieces, it's made to come apart for cleaning.  I can't remember if they have a twist to lock inner cup into place or if it's just a tight friction fit on the G.E.'s.

If it won't stay together then you will have to replace it or maybe just a drop of super glue in one or two places.

Thanks!

It worked. Thanks so much! It turned out to be as easy as you said: the softener assembly is a pull-out deal and the cup is friction-attached to the inner rim. I pulled the assembly, cleaned it and re-installed on the agitator.
