This 10 year old top loading washer just recently started having intermittent issues entering Cool Down part of Permanent Press cycle. The tub will fill for the rinse cycle, but it will not start to agitate or move forward from there. If I lift the lid and close it, the cycle will continue without any other intervention and be fine thru completion. This only happens intermittently (1 out of 3 times?) and I have only been able to re-create it in the Permanent Press cycle. It seems to work just fine in Regular Wash cycle, but we don't use it as regularly so cannot say that for absolutely sure. Scanning the threads, I think a dead spot on the timer switch might be the cause? But would appreciate others' opinions before I blow for the part. Thanks for any suggestions.

Next time, try tapping the Timer area, or lifing/closing the Lid carefully to see which has an effect.

First place I would be looking is the lid switch assembly in the consule area. If the first two numbers of your serial number are less then 15 then you have the older style switch assembly, (fuse, small microswitch and larger switch), the small microswitch goes bad were the contacts don't make good contact unless you slam the lid down.

yes, Willie's right (Budget Appliance Repair), that model won't Agitate if the Lid Switch is open (or bad) but you're only having problems in the "Cool Down part of Permanent Press cycle" ?
