I'm getting agitated, even if the washer won't!

Washer fills, squeals when trying to agitate (and sort of tries to move, and does just a little), then spins and drains fine.

I thought it was the corkscrew assembly. Read online about agitator dogs, which I thought (incorrectly now I think) were inside the multi-part corkscrew. Ordered a new one, and it came with the lower agitator part (large, round, conical piece), so I removed the old and installed the new. Andddddd, that did nothing except relieve me of $50.

The belt underneath feels and looks good, the pully assemblies look to be in decent condition. No oil or broken plastic pieces under machine.

I'm really hoping the transmission does not need to be replaced.

Any help would be appreciated oh great samurai from New Hampshire. I'm just up the road a piece in Maine. My ex is getting cranky with no laundry washy thingy, so the sooner I get this fixed, the sooner I get some peace and quiet.

Domo arigato gozaimasu.

Joshua

I searched by model number on this site, and didn't find the transmission. Where can I buy one?

I don't know how old the machine is. My ex moved into a rental house where the landlord said, "The washer and dryer are yours to use (and repair) if you want them. The previous tenants never mentioned them NOT working". Classic.

That would be good news. If we didn't purchase the machine, how do I go about getting a replacement transmission under warranty? Thanks so much everyone for all of your help.

Where do you look up the serial number to find a "made on" date?

Your washer was manufactured in July 2005 (lucky you...a few months later, January 2006, warranty went to one year ONLY...on ANYTHING). Your warranty reads:

Second Year through Fifth – All parts of the transmission assembly.

However, it ALSO reads:

What is Not Covered By These Warranties:

1. Conditions and damages resulting from any of the following:

a. Improper installation, delivery, or maintenance.

b. Any repair, modification, alteration, or adjustment not

authorized by the manufacturer or an authorized servicer.

In other words, you need to find yourself an authorized to order the part for you in order to get it under warranty.

You can call Whirlpool (Maytag/Admiral) at 1-800-253-1301 and ask for a list of authorized in your area, or go to http://www.maytag.com & look them up there by your zip code.

The current part number for your tranny is 35-6615.

Oh, and do NOT let them refer you to their "preferred" Servicer...buncha parts changing monkeys. Ask them for Independents in your area.

Robin,

GREAT information, thank you. On the Maytag site, I found Downeast Appliance right here in Portland. I'll give them a call with all the info today and see what gives. Many, many, many thanks!

Joshua
