| My Whirlpool Dryer -- Imperial Series, Model Number LEN2000KQ1 (?) -- makes a metallic grinding/squealing noise when operating. Seems to be drying and tumbling satisfactorily.What could be wrong? What should I look for? Should I repair or replace?Thanks,

| You will need to take it apart and look to see what is defective, could be drum rollers, idler assy., the front bearing ring may be missing and the drum is riding on metal around the front of the door, something might be in the blower wheel, you might have a motor with bad bearings. Any of these and more can cause this. something might be caught betweed the drum and the front bearing felt or something could be caught in the rear drum seal.

Check the idler pulley. Whirlpool made a couple years production with a slip pad idler instead of a roller(which worked great for 40 years). The slip pad design was a total failure ( noise, broken belts, and more noise) If yours has the gray slip pad instead of the wheel, install a new roller type pulley part # 691366 and a new belt # 341241.
Whirlpool went back to using the original roller type idler

Glad I could help. I've replaced a ton of those pad type idler pulleys. It's a rare thing when Whirlpool gives up on something "new and improved" and has to revert to the old part that worked perfectly.
