I replaced the belt on our Asko 720 dryer (with condenser.) Thanks to the 2005 thread about this - it was a big help. Unfortunately, now the dryer won't stay on. It runs as long as I hold the start button (the drum turns just fine) but it stops when I let go. I've checked the overheat shut-off - that's not the problem. In fact, it doesn't seem to be heating up at all.

I'm worried that I might have jostled something. The first time I tried to change the belt, I couldn't separate the back panel from the drum. I finally succeeded with the machine lying on its front. Now the front panel seems a little off. I didn't touch it at all that I'm aware of, but the power light shines out the side more than the front.

I have the same problem, though it didn't coincide with a belt replacement or anything else like that.

The dryer will run and does produce heat when the button is held down, and it will randomly run to the end of the timer, but most times it will run only as long as the button is held down, or sometimes you hit the start button and a relay will click, and it will run for 5-15 minutes, then return to the same condition as before.

I've pulled the water impeller cover off the front and cleaned out the lint and hair, which appeared to help initially, since it actually ran for a couple of days normally after I did that.

Also, the lint screen in the door no longer gets lint on it. I've taped the start button down so I can dry my damn clothes while I try to figure out how to fix the damn thing. Once I fix it I plan to sell the set on craigslist  and get a Duet or something like that. The Asko is a bit on the tiny side for my tastes anyway.

The cond model dryers have a reservoir where the water is collected.  If the pump fails or the drain is blocked, water will fill the reservoir, trip the overfill switch and cause it to only run with the start button depressed.  Maybe you knocked off the wire replacing the belt or are pinching the drain line.  The pumps often fail.  You can try putting a towel in front of the unit, and tip the unit onto it's front.  Water should come out by the cond.  Then try to run it.  If it works, you have a drain problem.  It will only run until water fills the chamber again.

aj,  I checked the drain tube to see if the dryer was evacuating water, and put the end of the tube in a bucket and ran it. The pump is draining water from the reservoir.

I can double check the hose run now that it's back in the usual spot next to the drain tube from the washer to see if it has a kink in it, but I do not believe that is the cause of the problem.

Also, the pump  was replaced under warranty last year.

I'm honestly stumped. I do know that when it runs properly, I press the start button, and hear what sounds like a relay clicking, and it does it's thing, and my clothes get dry without any drama. I don't hear that clicking sound, which leads me to think that there may be some component inside that's loose or defective.
