XP, Vista? Windows or third party firewall?

You could try dumpimg your current version oe win mess and cleaning up your unnessesary files. But I bet you the problem is rooted in too little memory to properly run that program. Have you checked for viruses/spyware ? Does Windows update also fail to run ? Does windows Defender run ? More info on Windows version, IE version required.

This could be due to Micrsoft forcing you to update your current version to the latest version of live messenger and the installation became corrupted? Try uninstalling the whole application from Add/Remove programs and reinstalling again. On the other hand your problem may be due to what was describe in the below link (http://tekxplorer.blogspot.com/2009/01/windows-live-messenger-2009-sign-in.html). Go download contacts.msi here (http://techtoggle.com/2009/09/error80040154-windows-live/).

You also might want to try to uninstall whatever third-party antivirus/spyware/firewall application(s) you have and then install the new ms windows security essentials, which does antivirus and spyware for free.
