yes There is a fan that bolts on to the inside back of the freezer section.Im not sure this fan ever comes on.

This may be that head scratcher problem where it's defrosting too long due to an out-of-spec evaporator thermistor. Remove the back inside wall in the freezer and get some eyeballs on the thermistor mounted to the evaporator. Compare with the chart below. If you have the old style, time to upgrade. Does the light turn off in the freezer when the door is closed? Is the water valve not closing all the way allowing the fill tube to drip? Is the heater at the bottom of the icemaker on too long during harvest? Whats the freezer temp?

it thaws the ice cubes in cycles,it is warmer on the upper part of the freezer when the ice melts,5df was the warmest I saw on the door display.after I pulled the evaporator cover off I see that the lower 1/3 of the evaporator is covered in frost

I have kept ice in the bucket but have turned off the ice maker and the ice still melted

light turns off,not confirmed on the over filling of ice tray or heater at harvest. since I feel heat at the top of the freezer and the cubes are melting I would rule out over filling of the tray.I suspect the defroster or the ice cube maker heater.

Just becuz you have a "flattop" not a "roundtop" thermistor does not rule out the possiblity the sucker is gimpy...not a proponent of throwing parts at an issue, but i would replace that thermistor if I had gone to the trouble of removing the back panel on this POS- to cheap not to. in my experience , 90% of the time this issue is traced back to an out-of-range thermistor

Suitably-sized crimp connectors would be better on this thin wire. More reliable connection, too. Purists will tell you that thermistor connections should only be soldered, and they have a point. The splice needs to have as low a resistance as possible because that additional resistance is read by the control board resulting in unsatisfactory temperature control.
