Got a '06 Kenmore elite free standing electric range, where the broiler element stopped working

Checked the continuity and its shows 20 ohms and connected it to the bake elements connectors to double check .... and it heated up – so I guess the elements not @ fault L

The voltage to one side of the element shows  240v and the other 0v. The blue wire, which shows 0v connects to the control board in the front panel, but as there is no failure codes and the ‘breaker’ in the control board switches on/off, when I push the broil touchpad, I’m in doubt if that’s the reason to the failure???

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Make sure the wire is pulled off one side of the element when making your test. Measure voltage w.r.t. ground or neutral. More info on this troubleshooting kata here.

already did - measured to ground (unpainted metal back side of range) one wire really shows 240v and not the 120v you discribe in the guide and the other side is 0v.

something's not wired correctly ..

check the Wall Outlet wiring ..

should only be 120v to [chassis, Ground, or Neutral] ...

thanks for the pictures - will make a check later tonight - BUT everything has been working since feb 06, up till a few days ago - with the current wall outlet wiring, it has never been touched since it was installed.

getting closer to hara-kiri  .

No loose nuts and bolts – re-measured the broiler element wires and one still shows 0V, which is the one that goes to the front touch panel. the other show 120V.

Element is still OK
