I have a GE bottom freezer refrigerator (don't have the model number handy) that is about 5 years old that is making a constant clicking noise. The refrigerator portion is not working at all and the freezer is still working. The refrigerator sounds like it is cycling on and off after each click. It originally started 2 weeks ago with the clicks happening every 10 seconds. This would go on for an hour and and then it would work. Now it has stopped completely.

Anyone have an idea what it is and how expensive it is to fix?

may be just a bad Start Relay on the Compressor ..

about $25 to $ 50

depending on model number

Or a relay clicking on the Mutha Board... would click more frequently than the overload.

We have been rebuilding a lot of these mutha boards for this symptom (and others). We have an easy way to determine if the board is the cause of this if you have a DVM and some resistors. Here's a link to a description of how to do it:
