Is there any need for a surge protector for undercounter dishwashers?
They have a lot of electronics now.
Mine is hardwired but I could possibly put a plug on it and put on a plug in surge protector?

worth it???

Sho nuff-- if the dishwasher has beep-beeps on it, then it needs surge protection.

I've seen some installations where the dishwasher was fitted with a cord and receptacle was installed near the d/w cubby so plug-in surge suppressor could be used in this case. But it's a bit like going around your elbow to get to your bunghole, if'n you know what I mean.

A better way to go is to have an electrician install a whole-house surge suppressor at your circuit breaker box. Then everything is protected, not just your dishwasher.

also depends on how close you're neighbors are ...

do you live in an apartment house, or a house in a sub-division, or out in the twighlight zone ?

apartment dweller may not need one ... lots of other electrical devices to "buffer" the surges ..

twilight zone dwellers definitely need a large one ... no "buffers"

subdivision .. somwhere  in-between ...

I second the suggestion of a whole-house surge suppressor (and checking your grounding periodically).  Although you still need some plug-ins surge suppressors around the house because they typically have components with lower clamping voltages and will shunt transients that pass through the whole-house unit.

On the typical whirlpool dishwasher, does unlatching it (opening the door) kill the dishwashers connection to the 110?

Or is some of the dishwasher  still "on" like a TV that has a remote (it is always on, listening for the remote)?????
