This fella has a water dispensor located inside the fridge.  A small little dispensor with spout and a button above it.  The unit had a bad main board (would overheat and stop working) .  There was an unrelated and separate issue that it also did not dispense water.  Unless I was dreaming I had 120V at the water solenoid when the button was pressed, thus suggesting that the water solenoid was bad...i thought.

I replaced the main board and the compressor works properly now, but I no longer  have 120V at the solenoid.

My question is:

Does anyone know if this model uses the main board to operate the water solenoid?  Or is it direct wired to the dispensor switch?

I didnt look at the schematic when I was there :(

Bonus Question for Appliance Genious'es'es:

How bad is it to replace the main board with one from an upgrade (one with auger and ice relays on it)?

Anyone have that wiring info for that dispensor switch down to the solenoid?

Too many questions?  sorry

Can't find much info on this one. There is a switch in the dispenser (item 182) but without the wiring diagram, can't tell what it's wired to. Do you have (or can you get) the wiring diagram and post it here? Can also fax it tme at 866-315-4504.

Yes, it is a strange one.  This is the first inside the fridge water dispenser that I have ever seen.  I dont know if Im going to get another trip back there and I actually hope not.  They are not complaining about the water, they are just happy to salvage the 3 year old GE fridge.  In defense of GE though, it did appear that some pudding-like substance had dripped onto the main board and most likely caused the thing to fail.

GE certainly could have sealed the main board compartment a little better to prevent that from happening.

Anyway, I have to unit operational on an upgrade to the orig board, I installed one with the ice relays and it seems to work ok.

Somewhere there is a GE engineer shaking his head.... ;)
