We had the hinges replaced @4 weeks ago because the door wouldn't shut and the oven light stayed on, we put a chair in front of the door to use the oven and turn of the light when not in use.  The repair tech replaced the hinges and all was well for the past 4 weeks.  Three days ago the door isn't closing fully and we are back to putting a chair in front of the oven door.

Any suggestions?  I don't want to replace hinges every month, I have a set on hand but there must be more to this than a set of hinges.  We have taken care not to set anything on the open door.  We have opened the door fully to put items in and out of the oven.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated...

Did he replace both hinges at the same time?

Do you know the part number of the hinge he used?

Also, note that there's a 90 day warranty on these parts. If this guy is worth his salt, he should provide a 90 day parts and labor warranty. Have you called him back and spoken with him about this?

Thanks for the info, yes both were replaced at the same time, it was part of the home warranty we paid for when we bought this house in August, the oven is a single unit with microwave on top.

Haven't called back, but I will this week.  The hinges looked identical to the ones I received from repairclinic.com, so I am assuming they are standard repair parts. I don't want to use my set until I know for sure what's causing the failure.

I will call this week and let you all know the results, I was just trying to find out if this is a known issue and there may be a problem with the unit hinge mounting points or door issue beyond the hinges.  Going through a set this fast seems un-natural somehow.

But then again, after the recall on my Mercury's cruise control, it worked for three weeks before failing, worked fine before the recall, was in the middle of a move from SC to GA so haven't gotten that fixed yet either...

Too much to do and not enough hours to do it...

Thanks for suggestion, greatly appreciated...

I couldn't find any service bulletins about this so either it's not a widespread problem or they haven't issued one... or I'm just not finding it.

I can't think of anything other than the hinges that would cause this problem.

Oddly enough, I ran into the same issue a short time ago where the unit has had 3 sets of replacement hinges over the past 12 months, the last time they were replaced, the receivers (which are a bitch to change). When I looked at it, it was actually open enough to allow the oven light to stay on, and the user told me that on all 3 occasions, the oven was fine for a few uses and then began to hang open again. Due to the circumstances surrounding the call, I was not able to attempt to repair as I was sent to inspect and report only. This is in a very upscale home and did not show any evidence of abuse. Obviously there is some cause for this, but maybe we will never find out

Yes, I've gotten it resolved, I meant to post a reply before now, it's on my personal to-do list, but I spent the weekend driving back to South Carolina picking up the last of my stuff to complete my move to Georgia.

After explaining to the repairman about the recent door hinge spring replacement, he did some research and installed an FSP (Genuine Whirlpool Part) BRKT-MNTG 814525, basically a shim which doesn't allow the bottom of the spring hinge to rotate down so far in the main unit slot.

Tightened it right up, in fact tighter now then when the hinges were originally replaced.

Thank for asking the question, I hate it when someone promises to reply with the fix, and then you never see them on the forum again, and I was almost one of those people.

That's it, the very kit they used, I've got the left over pieces of the kit taped to the back of the drawer we have under the oven.

When I looked at the unit I was sent to, that's what popped into my mind, the lower hinge spacers that were once included in a blower kit in the early 2000's when these models were incepted, great to have the kit info - thanks to all
