Kitchenaid dishwasher  kudlo3itss 3  ,  lowes, 16 months old, (glad I bought a warranty).

Background- 4 hr delay light started coming on at random a few weeks ago , it would stay on 5 sec then go off, come on 12 hrs or so   later for a few seconds . Then, if you selected "normal  wash"  on the touch screen (where is my old timer dial!!!!! ) the heavy duty wash cycle light would blink as would the normal wash light. when you punched cancel the start light would sometimes come on. no wash function at all. killing power had no curative effects.

I Called lowes warranty company, tech came, talked to Whirlpool on the phone, they said what can it be but the control board. They ordered one, and installed it,

First two days after the control board was installed, the 4 hr delay light clicked on a few times but then went a week with normal operation, but the 4 hr blinked occassionally.

When the control board was put in, they also ordered a sump motor (it was noisy they said)  which the man just came and put in yesterday. It worked one wash, then the next morning I got the crazy operation again: In the week Since the control board had been  put in I had only used light wash, this time I tried normal wash and got the heavy duty light flashing and the normal light flashing, and the crazy non operation. if you touched any wash button- light, rinse or normal you got the heavy duty light flashing and no running. pushing heavy duty only after a circuit breaker reset also got it to flash, but not run.

I put a fan on the control panel overnight thinks steam had got in the switches and I woke up last night to cut the fan  off,  and in the very dark room you could see 3 very very very small and dim lights on and blinking inside the 4 hr delay area ( hi temp , heat dry(and lock) and , 4 hr delay, . One of them blinked. . Others were just on.

you could only see the lights within about 6 ft -Even a monentary flashlight use, to see where the lights were, killed your night vision and you could not see them for a few minutes. they were very very faint light. No I dont do drugs.
I called the warranty company tech sat morning he said he would come back monday  and that he had seen the same thing on another kitchenaid/whirpool the day of my service call.

whats broken - any ideas?
what does a blinking light signify when you push another function- is that diagnostic of anything?

the big box's  warranty company made 5 trips over a month and put $500 of parts in it, NOT counting the labor, final thing that fixed it was a new touchpad/keypad

Gotta LOVE those Extended Service Plan folks....

A lot of 'em don't even bother with a company authorized by the original manufacturer, which means lack of training in some cases (Not You Guys & Gals), but yeah, they call in a parts changing monkey who works up from the least expensive to most expensive part, hoping that somewhere along the way, the thing will start working again.

And either the original Tech Sheet was missing, or the Tech that the warranty folks sent out doesn't know how to read one...those little blinking lights are their own legible fault codes,  if ya just know where to look.

Update- worked for a 3 weeks , then upper spray arm stopped working- would not turn from water pressure. lower spray arm turned slowly (as viewed by quickly opening the door)

we found the LOWER spray arm was loose, could be lifted up and out of the machine easiy- tech thinks that was causing loss of water pressure at the center hub. lower spray arm could not be screwed onto the little plastic thumb turn piece in the center. tech has ordered new arm and center piece for this kitchenaid.

Question- is that  center piece, and the lower wash arm, tricky to screw together???- I tried - would not work. threads look like a poor design to me by whirlpool

Update- they ordered new parts and installed them - wash arm and the thumbscrew that holds the wash arm down.
worked for a day.
Today the middle spray arm does not turn, (nothing is binding it and it will spin if you push it. this is the one under the upper rack. the small spray twirling thing in the top of the washer also does not spin either.
the lower wash arm moves around.

Question- what causes this? No water flow to that area?
Question - how much water should be in the dishwasher- this one has water just at the mid line of the heating element ring/rod.
Question - does the middle and upper spray arms work on all cycles or only some cycles?
Any ideas?
Question- the wash arm can be lifted up about 1/4 inch at its center- is this normal
I guess I call the warranty company again tomorrow

things replaced so far are
main control board
sump motor
touchpad
wash arm
