My Amana fridge with a slide out bottom freezer was built in the year 2000.  I have the owner's manual, but it does not show a model number. The receipt from dealer shows a model number KBRS22KJBT. However, the Amana website does not recognize that number. The closest number is KBRS22KGBT. However, that pulls a Kitchenaid product. There is no model # inside the cabinet or on the door frame. It may be on the back, but it's not easily accessible. So, I'm hoping the above is adequate to identify whatever is under my Amana label.

My problem is the ice maker. It is located in the upper left side of the freezer compartment, and has a large ice cube bin. It works fine, however after the ice bin has been full for a while, I notice that the bottom part is virtually a solid block of ice. Only the top layer is a veneer of separate ice cubes. I don't know if the fill cycle overflows, or the defrost cycle is too warm, or what. I don't see that the food has thawed and refrozen, and there are no other frozen water puddles in the freezer compartment. There is a filter in the ice maker water line.

I have another refrigerator with an ice maker, but it has never had this issue. I'm familiar with sublimation over time, but this is totally different. I'd appreciate any insight from the experts. Thanks.

Aha! I thought I'd looked everywhere. But the model decal was behind the light on top just where you said. It turns out to be an Amana model # ARB2117AC. Thanks!

I've been reading some of the posts and I wonder if I don't have a freeze timer issue. I've noticed that some of the ice cubes are a shell of ice instead of a solid cube. I also have read that insufficient water flow can affect the cycle. I'll check the water flow out of the saddle valve. However, our water system has always had a whole house filter, followed by an additional filter on the ice maker.

I hope the model number helps with further diagnosis about why our ice cubes become a solid block. Thanks for the tip.

There could be on obstruction in the ice maker fill funnel...I had an I/M that during fill, some of the water splashed out and went into the ice bin/ hopper...
