I have searched the forum for answers relating to my problems with a GE TFX24RLR side by side refrigerator. This model’s birth date was 2/1992. Yes, I know I should scrap it for newer energy efficient model but it fits the opening and my wife/boss doesn’t want to change. Issue 1: Ice maker freezes at the filler intermintly. I have found mention of changing the GE ice maker out to the newer Whirlpool. The question is, will the mounting bolts match up? Will I have to redrill the Whirlpool mounting plate or drill new holes in the side of the freezer? Maybe there is just insulation behind that area, I’m not sure. I found a post that talks about matching up the electrical leads so that doesn’t seem to be an issue. Issue 2: Water dispenser or line freezing up (I am getting water to the tubing connector before it goes into the door). Another forum search has turned up a poor design with the dispenser and a fix of installing a GE dispenser heater kit. The question is, will the power leads (I assume 110VAC) just be connected to the power leads supplying power to the light above the dispenser? Thanks for any help or comments.

issue 1........do you mean the filltube that is coming through the freezer wall or the fillcup attached to the icemaker is icing up ? issue 2......that heater is designed for newer ge ref 2000 and later and runs on low voltage if i am not mistaken. i think the solution for you would be to dissasemble the FZ door and reinsulate.

The heater kit will explain where to tap the voltage at for the water dispensor; The ice maker in these often freeze at the fill tube; this is usually caused by a leaking fill valve that allows water to build up in the tube; it can be a very small leak; that is all it takes to cause this problem; also try turning the temp down as low as you can handle in the freezer. Make sure there is no air leak at the fill tube entry point at the back of the refer. Good luck
