I have a Kitchenaid Superba standalone ice maker (Model# KUIS18NNJT5) that has a cleaning light blinking and will not make ice. I have used the Nickel Safe cleaner TWICE and yet the cleaning light is blinking. I took the front off and cleaned the coils with a vacuum cleaner. I started it up and it worked for two days perfectly and then again the cleaning light came on and stopped working. Any ideas?

I don't have a drain pump. I have the machine on blocks and I use gravity to have it drain out.

If I recall, the units have a small pump in them to flush away the wasted water after the freeze cyle, fills with a "smartvalve" that measures incoming water

Okay, sorry. To answer your question, I've never had any problems with water backing up in the unit. It's always been able to move the water out.

It was flashing continuously. I just now pressed the clean button so hopefully that will give me a specific flash sequence so I can figure out what's wrong. Thanks for your help. tvdave

most times, continuous flashing of the clean light signifies a shorted or open bin level thermistor. check yers wit a meter -should read approx. 10k at room temp +/- 10%

i assume you unplugged it and tested it at the molex plug - may want to check the wiring harness where it plugs in, back to the connections on the board... that maybe the part of the circuit where the short or loose connection is .

Yes I checked the Molex plug and then I checked the place where you plug it into. It was registering but low. It gave me about 30 on my meter. Any ideas? Thanks

no dave, i meant to lower the control box where the thermistor plugs up and visually inspect the wiring from that point to where it connects to the control board. unplug and re-seat that connector a few times on the board- look for any corroded or pinched connections or wires...
