Ok, so I've asked everybody I know (including some gas fitters/appliance guys) and they finally suggested I ask the Samurai Appliance repair man.  So here goes...

I have a GE profile range that I've taken from my house in town out to the cabin I just built.  There's no natural gas so I've taken it upon myself to convert it to propane.  This is the second time I've done such a conversion so I figured it should be simple (first was a few years back so maybe technology has changed) .

I've changed the orifices on the cook top and all are working perfectly; nice blue flames.  I've pulled the plug off the regulator in the oven and switched the pin from the NG to LP setting.  I then choked down on the air supply, also marked NG to LP.  I was surprised that there wasn't any indication of having to make an adjustment to the orifice for the broiler or base range burners so I haven't.

The problem is that I get enormous come out of the oven type flames on both the broiler and the base over burners.  Not a pretty picture and really difficult to bake a pie.  The flames are not nice and blue like they should be but have huge yellow tips.

I notice on another post that there may be an orifice hood that needs to be adjusted.  Since my cabin is 4 hours away (no cell covereage let alone internet) I figured I'd post this question with the hope I could get some sound advice before making the trek out there this week-end.  (my lovely wife really would like to use the oven and not just the cook-top)

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the initial attempt at answering my question.  Unfortunately it doesn't address that I've already used the conversion kit that came with the range (changed out the orifices) and the stove burners work great while the oven burners are dangerous.

What I need guidance on; is there something I have to do with the oven/broiler orifice(s) to rectify the problem.  There were no replacement orifices for the oven in the conversion kit that was attached to the back of the stove when purchased only for the stove burners.

Thanks

to convert the bake and broil burner to lp gas  you have to  close down the adjustable orifice hoods on those 2 orifice spuds.

using a 1/2 open end wrench ,turn the bake burner orifice clockwise, tightening it until it stops turning. you could probably crank it past the stopping point if you tried but use your common sense. you will feel the proper place to stop.

repeat this with the broil burner orifice.

you will probably need to adjust the air mixer at the end of each burner. loosen the set screw and adj this (careful now) with each respective burner actually ignited... you'll need to open each one to at least 1/2" or more. let the color and sharpness of your inner flame be your guide (should be almost completely blue with a sharp inner cone).

hope this helps...let me know if you have any ?
