Hi, I have a Fisher and Paykel DD603 where the top drawer will over fill with water and a beep with a tap crossed out flashes in the display. In test mode all functions work. I can turn on and off the water fill solenoid and it works fine, no leaks. From the manual I can not work out what detects the water level. Here is my guess at what is happening. Start the dish washer and it starts filling with water. After a period of time the fill sensor is not triggered so it gives up and turns off when the water is quite high (not enough to spill and trigger F1 water spill) When it gives up I guess because it has taken too long to sense the fill level it gives an indicator that there is no tap water supply. Ok I pulled off the front of the drawer and removed the control panel to check for obvious faults like poor connections and check the connectors were seated and all was ok. What I had problems with and I was very careful is on the right side of the plastic module holding the circuit board is parts of the plastic broke. I found it was very brittle. I ended up re fitting it with double sided tape. Now when put back together still the same fault but the economy proximity button did not work, I managed to get the control board on the right stuck higher and the economy proximity button worked better than it had for a long time, it had been intermittent before so I guess the control board was sagged a bit on the right for some time. What does the Washer use to sense the level as I could not work it out from the manual. I saw a hall effect sensor, is that it and how is it detecting and how do I diagnose. I could have tried the lower drawer control panel but as the plastic on the top one got damaged removing it I thought I would leave it alone until I had more info. Is it normal for this plastic to be so rubbish quality? Yes I fix a lot of electronics but not appliances and was careful. I took one small bit of broken plastic that the control board was housed in and could with very little force break it in pieces. Thanks for your time.

It works on a timed fill- but if it does not drain completely, it is cumalitive. Check and make certain that the rubber piece that joins the 2 drain hoses and then connects to the drain is installed in such a way that the rubber is not pinched off- this will not trigger an F1 as that is for leaked water within the cabinet of the machine

Thanks Kdog, I have done some more checking and stupidly I found out that the spray arm needs to be fitted when testing or the water level gets high and the water tap icon comes on beeping. I tried the bottom drawer and same thing. I guess I fixed the problem by disassembling and cleaning out the tub, motor etc and put it back partially together and did the rinse for a test. 1. I believe the water height has to be fairly precise for the spray arm to work so I find it hard to understand with different water pressures how time only will work to fill the water, what is regulating the height or fill rate? 2. Why when in test mode does the fill and empty work fine but without the spray arm fitted does it over fill? Just would like to understand how that all functions for future reference and curiosity. Thanks

the water level is determined by monitoring current use of the motor when the water fills and the motor primes and the spray arm starts spraying the water around the current changes and the electronics knows the motor is primes and enough water is there if for example during the wash a bowl turns over and fills with water , the electronics knows this as the motor current varies so the water is topped up , same can happen if there is too much soap suds and 1 cause of F1 when you dont have the spray arm fitted the current doesnt change , it will keep filling for a set time limit then come up no tap

Hi J5, Thanks for that explanation, that makes sense. I guess if water filled slowly then the motor current would be checked and then it would add more water but as the water pressure range is stated on the install instructions this should not have to happen often. This explains exactly what I was observing. I have fixed this and unblocked many times before but always put on the spray arm. This time I did not and unfortunately the result was the same as it started with over filling so I thought I still had another problem. Well learn something new every day or at my age every month.
