I have a 48" built-in GE Monogram fridge with ice/water dispenser (touchpad type control panel) in the freezer door. Today as we were sitting in the kitchen, our ice dispenser came on all on it's own and started spitting ice all over the floor. My wife hit the water button, trying to turn off the ice, and then we had water spraying on the floor instead of ice. BTW, the arm that you depress to get ice/water to dispense under normal conditions was not depressed. We were able to stop the flood by opening the freezer door. But as soon as the door shut, the water (or ice, whichever was selected) would start dispensing again. We got it to finally stop by pushing the "control lock" button on the touchpad control panel. This keeps it turned off even with the freezer door shut. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, so I think with a diagnosis I can get it fixed. Thanks, Tom

Thank you, Samauri. Can you provide some guidance on where that timer board is located inside the freezer door, and how it is accessed? Thanks, Tom

ive been replacing a lot of fountain switches on these monograms lately. they look and test good but intermittently stick or activate on their own. i dont know if they get moisture in them from humidity or what but this is what i have been replacing with success. I prefer a generic 16 amp microswitch over the original because its a bit heavier duty.

OK, good. Thanks for the input and the diagram. Denrayr, can you identify the fountain switch (and the aforementioned timer board) by number on the diagram so I know what I'm looking for when I get this apart? Also, what is the prefered method of getting into the door? I see the 6 screws along the outside edge of the door along the hinge that appears to hold the stainless steel to the door itself. Is that the entry point? Seems like there should be some access from the front as well, but I see no fasteners at this point. Thanks for your help. Tom

113 is the fountain switch EDIT to get this apart you have to remove the handle and the handle retainers then remove the screws around the perimeter of the door then the outer stainless skin will slide out. once you have this out you can remove the touch control panel then you can usncrew the plastic block that the rest of the dispenser parts mount to then you can work on the whole assembly on your counter top Last edited on Thu Jul 2nd, 2009 02:49 am by denrayr ____________________ RedRock Appliance Service 435-773-7838 http://www.redrockrepair.com Serving St George and Southern Utah |

Thank you, Den. I'll source a switch (and possibly a timer board?) and tackle it this Saturday. Regards, Tom

I second the need for the better switch, for years I have used the switches from those old Whirlpool fridges that defrosted through the icemaker as replacement micro's whenever possible- you can't go wrong with a switch that is built for that much heat. They also work like a "hot-damn" to replace the lower lock switches on the Maytag Gemini Ranges.
