I have a GE Monogram 48" SxS refrigerator. Model number ZISS48DRISS. Yesterday my wife and I were watching TV when the ice dispenser starts shooting ice all over the floor. I thought the switch was stuck so I went over and pushed the lever (the one you push with a glass) in and I could hear the switch click, and the dispenser kept pushing ice out. I let go, it stopped for about .5 seconds and then continued. This happens with ice, water, crushed ice, etc. I shut the power off to the refrigerator thinking that would reset it. Turned it back on and the dispenser didn't shoot ice out until I hit the lever. But I did notice that the lights on the display never went off. Like it was still activated. The only way I could shut it off was to disconnect the wiring harness above the freeze (under the little door, three wired connector). There is a main circuit board behind the access panel , but then I found out there is another in the freezer door itself. Any ideas how to figure out what the problem is? Anyone know of a way to get a service manual for this refrigerator? Being an engineer I know if I had that I could find the problem easy. Thanks Brian

That board in the dispenser is the timer board. It can be a troublemaker. If you remove the board (unplug fridge, first!) and inspect it, you may find a burn spot on it.

Thanks. I need to figure out how to get in there. I am guessing Ihave to take the SS panel off. Funny thing, I plugged it back in last night. Works fine. I still dont trust it. Talked to a neighbor. Had the same problem.

bielick, Did you ever find the solution to your ice-spitting fridge? Today my Monogram fridge did the same thing - automatically started spitting out ice. We were able to get it to stop by opening the freezer door and then by locking the touch-screen control panel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tom

Sorry to hear that. Actually, all I did was unplug the connection running to the door and left it like that for a few days. Plugged it in and haven't had the problem since then. I dont know if it is sticky switch/bad circuit board/something else, but I can't say that I pinpointed the problem. I did cut the power to the fridge via the circuit breaker and flipped it back on again but that did not help. The only thing that worked was to unplug the harness running to the freezer door for a few days ( 2 or 3) and then plug it back in. Now maybe it only needed to be unplugged for a few minutes, but I didn't want to take any chances. Found out GE was going to charge me $75 to just come look at a $7K fridge, I said a few "nice things", hung up, plugged it back in , and haven't had a problem since. Good luck!

Tom, Did you ever replace the control board in the door? Was it hard? Did it solve the problem? About 11:30 last night ours started spitting ice out again. MIght be time to look at replacing that board if it works. Thanks

I have seen this happen due to the wiring that runs up into the freezer door through the lower hinge becoming damaged- saw one iith a nicely crisped lower hinge that occurred by the wires grounding to the hinge itself; since this happened as the Mrs. was opening the freezer door, there was a small, brown telltale spor on the floor a few feet in front of the freezer.

Interesting. I will have to take a look at that and see if there is any damage. Thanks for the post. B
