Frigidare SxS Refrig.
Mod# PLRS267ZAB7
Ser# LA25012027

Having a problem with the cubed/crushed ice solenoid freezing in up/cubed positon, so when ice auger bin is removed and reinstalled only can get crushed ice.

I installed the 240562101 Foam Block around the selonoid on 10/12/08 and just got a call last week that it is having the same problem again.  Went out and freed up frozen solenoid again.

There were two service bulletins regarding this problem, one was the foam block which I found the service bulletin about and installed.  I recall, in the past, seeing a service bulletin regarding this and the fix was to drill holes in certain areas of the auger motor and solenoid area so air could flow and not let the cold stagnet air freeze the selonoid.

It can't find the second bulletin that I know I've seen.  Can anyone point me in the direction to that specific bulletin, (such as year and issue of service bulletin).

Thanks,

How did you 'free-up' the solenoid.......I did a frigidare about four yours ago, same problem................First visit..... I used the hair dryer to thaw the solenoid ..........The second  and third  visit , Thawed out the solenoid and the repair was  to install a new panel with holes in it..............The fourth  visit, I thought about the last three trips,, every time I thawed out the solenoid ( I removed the whole auger panel ) I reinstalled the panel right away, solenoid worked.......I realized that I was reinstalling the solenoid when it was hot from the heat,  to remove the ice...... This time I let it set on the counter to cool down to room tempurature, reinstalled the assy......... never did go back.......................I thought that the solenoid being hot, it was 'sweating'...attracted moisture.......It worked for me that time.......Just a thought........... Keep us posted..................

I cant help you with the bulletin, but I had this very same problem on the fridge in my condo.  I should post in the monkey repairman section, because the first time we had a service guy out to the house (I wasn't home).  I had showed my wife exactly what to show/tell him.  He ignored her and told her that the auger was bad.  He then left and had a bucket/auger sent to me.  I still have it in a box.

I finally got someone there when I was home so he couldn't escape without actually fixing the problem.  He removed the solenoid and showed me that it was covered in gunk that he said should not be there.

I cant remember if he cleaned it off, or replaced it.  But after that it seemed to work as it should.    I dont know if it's working as it should now as it's been over a year, but  I could check with my tenants if you'd want me to.

If only I had found this forum back then...  Although it was under warranty at the time.

Well, first time I went out, I just freed the solenoid by pulling the stir-up down without removing anything and ordered the styrofoam solenoid cover.

When I came back to install this I just took the complete auger assembly out and dried it all off with a towel and installed the foam cover, also put a thin film of Zoom oil all over solenoid to hopefully help protect it from the moisture and help prevent freeze-up.

It worked fine for the the last 5 months the all of a sudden freezes up again.   This time when I went out to verify that it was in-fact just a frozen up solenoid, I showed the man of the house how and where to pull the stir-up back down if it freezes up again, and told him I would try to find the service bulletin about drilling the holes in the auger motor box, (as I know there is a service bulletin out there with this recommended fix).

I really don't know what else to do except maybe replace the solenoid, but it works fine once you free it up and I don't want to just replace it with the hope that's going to fix it.

i remember this problem back in around'02-'03 but dont see it listed on the bulletins on frigidaires site. i remember they had a piece for sale with the holes already drilled in it. I remember installing the holy panel and still having freeze ups. I called tech support and they recommended giving the solenoid and gearbox a liberal spraying with food grade silicone oil. I have used this method a couple of times since then with good results.

I'll be ding-danged on how he does that!  I looked all over that site and could not find that bulletin.  I have a new title for Reg:  The Infomaster.  :rocker:
