My icemaker makes ice just fine & dumps into the big tray on the door.  Problem is I can hear the motor trying to turn but it fades out and does not spin when I depress the ice lever. Any ideas out there??  Kinda tired of sticking my hand in there for ice.

Gracias Amigos & Amigas!

Sure sounds like the auger drive motor in the door is shot but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance.

 Motor, dispenser

OK...I will try that---thanks

on anothetr note, since it does try to start, is there some type of kill switch that is coming on to keep it from overheating or something?  It just seems to me that if the motor is trying then it is not completely shot---or do you think it is a lost cause??

The auger drive motor does reverse for crushed/cubed ice but there is no 'kill switch' in thecircuit. The motor gets it's voltage from the dispenser switch system at the front of the freezer door. If the auger drive motor is getting the 120 volts when the actuator in the door is depressed but not running then it is shot.

a quick test i would do is

set control for cubed ice

opend door and remove ice bucket

hold down door switch with one hand

reach around door and push the ice paddle with the other

watch the 3 tooth coupling, is it spinning?  push on the coupling, it should push down a little and spring back up. if it doesnt feel like it is pushing down and springing up it is common for them to get moisture inside and freeze. you can take it apart and dry out the coupling, i like to lubricate the friction points and the rubber o ring seal with food grade silicone grease.
