Two months back freezer was iced up so bad the evap fan blade was hitting ice.  I cleaned it up (hot water from faucet), replaced fan blade.

Two days ago it started getting warmer.  I unplugged and let sit 10 minutes.  Plugged in again and after a few minutes it got down to 40f in Freezer and 50f in fresh.  Let it run several hours.  No colder.

Plugged it in and checked it today - lights work, evap fan runs, compressor fan runs.  After several minutes compressor gets VERY hot.  Can't stand to touch more than 1-2 seconds.  After 5,10,15 minutes, the evap coils & condensor coils are still room temp.

Checked the board in back - no obvious problems.  Touchpad works, setting temps to ZERO, compressor and fans shut off.  Back to 1 or higher and they kick back on, but same as above - HOT compressor, room-temp coils.  Matter of fact, the lines from the compressor are barely warm a few inches from the compressor.

Saturday I will disconnect and test the sensors/thermistors resistance as they cool down in small bags of ice-water.  Then I'll reconnect them and test at the board and compare readings.

I'm just afraid the compressor itself is bad.  Any suggestions?

Hello, my frightened friend.  You mentioned two things that caused my turban to tilt.  Let us examine each:

Two months back freezer was iced up so bad the evap fan blade was hitting ice. I cleaned it up (hot water from faucet), replaced fan blade.
This may indicate a defrost system failure, depending on the nature and extent of the ice observed.  If nothing was done to correct the root cause of this problem, it will manifest again and may be a compounding factor in your current predicament.

After several minutes compressor gets VERY hot. Can't stand to touch more than 1-2 seconds.
This usually indicates either a very dirty condenser or a stopped condenser fan motor.  Less frequently, it may indicate a compressor that is about to meet Allah and the young virgins in Paradise. A most fortunate compressor!

Thanks Moostafa,  the JellyRoll condensor was pretty clean, cleaned it even better.

Condensor fan comes on a few seconds after the compressor's initial 'click'.

Tested each sensor and defroster thermistor.  Both sensors tested fine by temps/resistance.  The Thermistor stayed at 4.6 Ohms or showing about 92 degrees.

I ran the touchpad diagnostics and it confirmed the Thermistor is bad, fans OK.
Now it reads 000 Ohms -after I removed it.

I removed the Run Capacitor / Overload Protector - pencil-sized hole in bottom of Relay/Overload Protector, and it rattles.  The Cap reads Infinity on Ohms.

I tested the Compressor at the pins: all showed infinity on ground test; all had very low resistance between each pair but not Zero.  So the compressor didn't burn out.

I hope the Defrost Thermistor prevented any Defrost Cycles causing compressor to overheat thereby blowing the relay/overload protector.    Please let me know if this doesn't sound like a good theory.

I'll try to get the parts at the Marcone store on the way home.  I'll post results (unless I have to order the parts).
