Oh Samurai, you have saved us a repair bill and a headache with your great advice on the pump that would not stop running.  But now this little grasshopper has two questions about the noises our dishwasher makes.

Beeps:  The dishwasher makes a beeping sound throughout the cycle.  I have no idea what the beeps signify, and they're annoying.  Is it possible to turn off the beeping mechanism?  I read in the FAQs the instructions for silencing the beeping on a different model of Bosch, but the controls on that machine are different so the rules don't apply.

Whistling:  Occasionally, when the machine is washing, but water is not entering or exiting the dishwasher, a whistling noise is heard from inside the machine.  We've rearranged the dishes and wiggled the racks, but don't know what's causing it.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Hello, my noisy friend.  The beeping may simply mean that your rinse aid dispenser is empty; consult your use and care guide for more tidbits on this.  Also, have you cleaned the both the cylindrical and flat mesh screens lately?

The whistling during wash, however, may be a bit more serious as it may indicate a worn bearing on the wash motor and a wash motor replacement may be in your future.

Many thanks for your advice, as well as the ominous warning.

We have cleaned the filters regularly, but the rinse aid dispenser is indeed empty.

If it is the wash motor bearing, is it better to replace the wash motor or replace the whole machine?

If you're mechanically inclined and aren't afraid of taking stuff apart, I would replace the wash motor... when it finally fails. If you think you'll to do this repair, PM me your email address and I'll send you the service manual.
