Samsung Microwave MW1255WA.
Was luckily at home today when I heard the tone on the microwave indicate
it had completed its cycle.  Then the reminder tone that it was done.
WTF?

I had not set the microwave to use.

Walking into the kitchen I caught the led saying"Slice", then proceed to
start itself.  I opened the door and it was hot, from the previous run.

The front panel control  buttons don't work.
I unplugged the unit from the outlet, and plugged it back in.

Displayed 888888.
Then in approximately 15 - 20 seconds.
"Slice" Appeared on the display.  And a few seconds later, it started.

I've exercised the house with holy water and washed the sills with salt water.
There are no flys or blood leaking out the walls, and no cold spots in any rooms???

Thoughts?

Yeah, Microwaves are inexpensive.
But FYI - I think this could have been a serious fire hazard if I was away from home when this happened.  Any means to find out if there are recalls on this model?

Thanks,
Jeff in Sunnyvale, CA.

My favorite Beer??? Cold!

There was a recall on the RV units for Samsung.  Exactly your problem, key pads shorting and starting by themselves.  I have not heard of any household units having this issue.  I would certainly call them and tell them, usually when it is a issue pertaining to a safety or liability issue, they are quick to assist.

HI- Thanks for the come back.  I called SAMSUNG Customer Service hotline at 1800-SAMSUNG (1800-726 7864) and was met with very personable help on the initial
front line call taker.  They opened up a transaction number and escalated my call
as they could not find any recall notices on the product model listed in my initial
posting.  The 'executive' call taker was equally friendly.  And took more information to
pass along.  As this model number had no logged symptoms they are going to...
'look into it'.
Primarily my call was to let them know that this is a potential fire hazard.
Asked what to do with this unit, he said to hang on to it til the end of October.
They may get back with me.  Otherwise, ewaste it if I don't hear from them.
Samsung's lawyers owe me a beer. Better yet, a dinner comparable to where they would go eat,
And Beers.

I know this didn't get into fixing the problem, but that's where the living flow chart took me.
Take care!

Jeff

Can you leave the door open when it's not in use so it will be unable to go into a Slice and cook cycle? Depending on the cavity light not coming on when the door is open. You could even remove the cavity light if it does come on.

This could be an easy solution to the problem. :)
